NBA player Jahil Okafor opens up for the first time after he punched a man outside a nightclub

76ers Rookie Jahlil Okafor punched a man outside of a nightclub in Boston on Wednesday night, November 25, after his team lost to the Celtics. According to TMZ, he got into an altercation with a heckler outside a club called Storyville after the man yelled, "The 76ers sucks". Okafor responded by yelling, "We got money,you broke ass nigga," before punching the man in the face, knocking him to the ground. A representative for Okafor told TMZ that his client was heckled repeatedly after leaving the club and he felt threatened.



Yesterday, Okafor spoke with reporters about the incident for the first time.
"It was definitely dumb on my part," he said. "Something I’m embarrassed about. Still dealing with the league and the team, but I’m not happy about it at all. We’re still going through the process of what we’re going to do. I’m ashamed with what I did and that’s not who I am," he said. "Everybody that reached out to me that’s in my circle, they know that’s not who I am. So I have a great support system, and they will continue to support me"
Boston police said that they will not investigate the incident unless someone comes forward to press charges
"Victim states that two black males,one believed to be Okafor, approached his group of friends and quickly began talking to a few of his female friends in an effort to obtain their phone numbers. According to the victim, when his female companions refused their advances, a verbal altercation ensued between him and the suspect" the police statement reads.
